This morning I was practicing my memory verse that my community group dealt out as homework. It was Romans 8:28-33. We’ve all been working on memorizing one verse at a time, and it all started a few weeks ago with Romans 8:28. This week I had forgotten all about verse 28, so I had to restart the entire sequence. But, something definitely jumped out to me this time around that hadn’t all the other times before.
“And we know that God works for the good of those who love him, who are called according to his purpose. For those he foreknew, he also predestined, to be conformed to the image of his son, that he might be the first born among many brothers. For those he predestined, he also called, for those he called, he also justified, and those he justified, he also glorified.”
In an effort to memorize that last part, I thought to myself, “If this is a sequence, then, first your predestined, then your called, then justified, and finally glorified. Where do I land? What stage of life am I in right now?”
And I realized that yes I have been predestined. Yes I have been called (kind of why I’m writing this right now), and now I want to know what it looks like to be justified. The definition of justified is: “having, done for, or marked by a good or legitimate reason.” Or the second definition is, “declared or made righteous in the sight of God.”
So, that means that in this time of preparation for what God really wants me to be doing, I’m supposed to be working on becoming more righteous. I know that God wants to use me in a powerful way and that this time in my life right now is just getting me ready for that moment. I’m becoming justified, and I need to be working harder at that. So that’s what this entire website is all about: saying no to sin and growing in the likeness of his Son, that I may be the firstborn among many brothers.
So God, give me the strength to walk in your path. Lead me not into temptation, but give me the strength to overcome the odds. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
