1 Peter 5: 1

“Young men, in the same way be submissive to those who are older. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because ‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.’ Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.” 1 Peter 5: 1

One of my buddies quoted this verse back to me after hearing what I was going through at work. After landing there in the bible randomly this morning I felt like I should focus on it a little more; primarily because I know very well just how much work I have ahead of me in regards to being obedient to this verse. I have become very combative and prideful, especially in all of the content that I create at work. So when I get opposition from above me I tend to respond with undertones of distaste and questioning – as if I don’t think they know what they are doing. Which is probably why I haven’t been promoted. :/

Clothe yourself with humility (definition of humility: modest view of one’s own importance). What does that look like? I can assure you that it is far from how I’m currently clothing myself. I think I’m awesome, and it definitely comes across in the way I carry myself. But if I clothed myself in humility, I can see that people would want to boost my confidence, promote me, show me that I am worthy of honor.

I definitely need to work on this at work. I could lay low with all of the content that I am creating and let all of the work I have done speak for itself – rather than toting around my computer to every department asking them for advice on a video I just got done editing. Yes…more humility.

Lord, give me more humility in the workplace and in my life. Show me the right attitude to wear each and every day. Let your Spirit overpower my boastful and prideful nature by giving me the self control to humble myself before those people in charge of me and before You. I ask that you be with me today and show me ways that I could be more humble and show more humility.

In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen!
