“Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:34
As I start this new group at Living Stones, I’m really at peace. This new group of guys that I am becoming a part of has really benefitted my walk with the Lord, and I’m very thankful for it. We are looking to expand our group into bigger and better groups, but we are looking for ways to do that. We are looking to invite other guys and to see them be grafted into our group. This verse is huge in that respect.
If guys are going to look at our group and know that we are disciples—dedicated Christians that are on fire for the Lord, then we must show each other love. We should be able to be best friends. We should be able to lay down our lives for our brothers.
But what does that mean to love one another like Jesus loved us? In the chapter leading up to this scripture, Jesus bent down and washed all of the disciple’s feet.
“…he now showed them the full extent of his love.” John 13:1b
What does that look like in today’s society? What does showing the full extent of our love to a brother look like in 2016. Is it cooking him dinner, giving him a nice place to stay when he visits, and serving him as a great host? Is it writing him letters of encouragement, not only when he is down and out but when he is leading into a high point in his life when he needs a firm foundation to stand on? What does that look like in today’s society?
Lord, refresh my mind to think on ways that I can love my brothers.
In the name of Jesus I pray,
