Romans 12:1-3 “Therefore I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God – this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will. For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgement, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you.”
This is probably one of my favorite verses in the bible, and not because I can quote it all day long, or because it is one of those strong promise verses, like Matthew 17:20: “If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” There are promises in the Romans 12, like what you need to do in order find and pursue God’s will: “…be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is…”. But more than that, it is a declaration of what you should be living like, and it’s extremely powerful.
It calls for us to offer our bodies as living sacrifices. The definition of sacrifice is: “The surrender or destruction of something prized or desired for the sake of something considered as having a higher or more pressing claim.” Our bodies are supposed to be given up to God for him to use. He is the higher claim and we are supposed to offer up our lives as living sacrifices; it is our spiritual act of worship.
So what does that look like? I think it means when God says “Go!” we go! We do not think about our careers or where we want to be in 10 years. We want to be closer to God in 10 years! It is scary to think about each and every one of us not having control over our lives and where WE want them to go. But I don’t think we need to be afraid, God has tailored his calling and his will to each and every one of our lives. He knows what it is within reach for us. Our greatest action can be to think of ourselves less and put God at the forefront of our decision making.
I need to really start trusting God with where he is leading me. I need to start diving into his word with Kassi to see where he wants us. I know that Australia is a great place for us to start, but we need to be praying and giving these two years up to God for him to do with them what he wants. These two years could depict what the rest of our lives are going to be like! I want to give them up to God, mentally, physically, and spiritually.
Take these years from us, let us sacrifice everything to be closer to you and to be fully immersed in your will for our lives. Let the way we think about these years be focused on the pursuit of you. Remind me and help me guide Kassi to be in union with you and your will for our lives. Bless our marriage and our finances as we gear up for an adventure of a lifetime!
